‘Books that Matter’ Subscription Box Review

For a while now I’ve wanted to try a bookish subscription box. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect one for a couple of months, and a few weeks ago I found it.

‘Books that Matter’ is a subscription box that aims to ’empower and inspire women through amazing literature’.

Within your box you will receive at least one book, and ‘at least three gifts from independent female and non-binary artists’. (Find their website here!)

Since I’m a student and can’t really afford to splurge on a long subscription, (they offer either one month, three month, six month and twelve month subscriptions) I opted for the one month option. The August box cost £15 and delivery was £3, which I thought was fairly reasonable and I was happy to pay it for a one off treat for myself.

The box arrived within a couple of days of placing the order, which was great since I was so eager to open it and explore the goodies inside!

The theme for this August’s box was ‘Body positivity’, which I think is a wonderful theme and often needed. The gifts I received were:

  • A book- ‘Memoirs of an Ex-Prom Queen’
  • ‘Self Love Cards’
  • A bookmark
  • A sticker
  • A journal

Inside you’ll find a leaflet that explains the gifts you receive and gives information about the businesses that the gifts come from. There is also a brief overview of the book of the month. For August the book was ‘Memoirs of an Ex-Prom Queen’, which is a book that I had not previously heard of. However, after reading the blurb and information in the leaflet I’m very excited to read it- and will definitely be using the bookmark I received with it, since the design is so cute and empowering!

The box also contained a self-love journal, which I think is absolutely wonderful! It consists of pages that make you list the things you love most about yourself, and take time to write about yourself as you would a best friend- which I think is something we should all do from time to time.

The sticker that was included was designed by ‘Lone Owl Studio’ and I think it’s such a perfect reminder to be kind to yourself, as well as others. I decided to place it on my laptop, so that I can see it and other people can too! (Find their website here!)

The ‘Self Love Cards’ are also a wonderful gift. They have short quotes and mantras, which are perfect for meditation or to use as daily reminders to be kind to yourself and love yourself! There were so many in the box, and a couple of double ups so I decided to gift those to my friends. My friends really liked them too! The cards were designed by ‘House of Wonderland’- (Find their website here!)

Overall, I am very happy with this box and the gifts that I received. I think the box is definitely worth £15, and it’s great that by buying it you’re supporting lots of small and independent businesses. I would definitely consider buying one again!
